Tombstone, Arizona

Tombstone, situated in the southeast corner of Arizona is a fun town.  Part museum, part theatre, depicting the town as it was in the 1880’s.  Buildings are either original, or have been faithfully restored thanks to the work of the noted photographer Fly, at the time.  Stagecoaches and covered wagons roll down the streets (carrying tourists) and shopkeepers dress in the period.  Wyatt Earp,  his brothers and Doc Holliday roam the streets and the McLaury brothers slink around, all preparing for the shoot out at the OK Corral.  The population was around 15,000 in the 1880’s but is now 4,000.  The town is situated at 4,500 feet, making the nights cool but the days can get very hot.  Summer is the low tourist season because of the heat and a lot of the locals take their holidays away from the area at this time. We enjoyed a fun night at the Big Nose Kate Saloon (she was the girlfriend of Doc Holliday).  Nachos, pizza, calzones, sliders and chicken (enough leftovers to take home for the next night’s dinner.  All washed down with Cactus juice Margaritas and beer served in very large glasses.  The place was jumping with a country band.
